On March 9 I attended Oklahoma Marginal Well Commission (OMWC) seminars on SPCC regulations, and green-house gas monitoring. I’ve asked if the various regulations and monitoring can be used to bring additional value or benefit to the owner, but it seems that unfortunately, the answer is no. The reporting, monitoring and compliance efforts affect almost everyone involved, and add an additional financial burden to the production of oil and gas. A glimmer of hope is out there however. Congress may move to defund some of the EPS’s regulatory power responsible for these burdensome regulations. Here is a link to an article that reveals the impact, not only on our industry, but on others as well. EPA Carbon Regulations Threatens Economy | The Foundry: Conservative Policy News.
What does that have to do with this iPhone project? This project is designed to help owners and pumpers be more productive, through the deployment of specialized iPhone software in the field. Features of the initial release will help owners and pumpers track production in a timely and efficient manner. Access to production history on the iPhone will help pumpers troubleshoot irregularities.
Beyond basic data collection of tank levels, flow and pressure gauges, there have been many suggestions that have to do with scheduled monitoring of the wellsite. The idea is to make it easier to document EPA compliance efforts. As you follow this project, please feel free to call or comment on iPhone features that would help you in this area.
