Osage County Field Visit

It was a beautiful day in Osage County, Oklahoma on March 10, 2011. My guide for the morning was Gary Brown. Jim Mahan of Flagship Oil was kind enough to allow us to visit wells and tank batteries on their lease.
Jim and his team do an exceptional job of keeping their sites clean and organized. They are also interested in cutting costs in any practical way possible.
They are interested in the iPhone project to assist their pumpers, and we looked at a variety of dials and gauges that need monitoring. There is also an interest in monitoring inventory, such as pipes, hoses, chemicals, etc. Keeping close tabs on inventory can help with smoother operation and determine theft situations more quickly.
For Flagship, monitoring is vital, because some of the wells are close to lakes and waterways, or are not easily accessible. Any leak at all needs swift response.
David, one of Flagship’s pumpers, stopped by while we were there. David was very interested in the iPhone project and indicated it would be a valuable tool.
One of the things that frequently comes up is the mention of “real-time” monitoring through the use of various communication methods. While this is beyond the scope of the current project, there is nothing to prohibit using this software as a visual front-end to such a system.
